Once the acid has been dropped, change in color may be expected. A bright red colour change indicates that the ring material contains 99.9% pure silver. If the color changes to a dark red, it is safe to estimate pure silver content to be at 92.5%- this is where sterling silver should pass for. Brown color change may indicate that pure silver content is at an average of 80% and a green change means that the pure silver in the ring material is at 50.0%.
